Welcome to INMMiC 2010

The workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimetre-wave Circuits (INMMiC) will be held at the Chalmers Tekniska Högskola, Göteborg (Sweden) on April 26th - 27th, 2010. After earlier successful workshops in 2004 in Rome, 2006 in Aveiro and 2008 in Málaga, INMMiC offers again a forum for promoting, discussing and spreading ideas in the field of Nonlinear Microwave and Millimetre-wave circuits.

Technical program

The technical program consists of 2 invited talks, 27 oral papers and 13 posters.

Invited speakers

Dr. David Root: "Device modeling with NVNAs and X-parameters"
ABSTRACT:
This talk will discuss two independent approaches to measurement-based transistor modeling using data available from modern NVNA measurement systems. The first approach uses waveform data to improve the characterization, parameter extraction, and validation methodologies for conventional "compact models" formulated in the time domain. It is argued that a better set of model parameters for a given compact model can be obtained from NVNA data than can be obtained from only DC and linear S-parameter data. Moreover, model validation under realistic large-signal conditions comes for free. A complementary approach to device modeling is the nonlinear black-box approach of X-parameters, the rigorous superset of S-parameters and load-pull that can now be measured on commercially available NVNAs and used immediately in commercial simulators for nonlinear design. A brief review of X-parameters is provided, and a discussion of the respective pros and cons of these two approaches presented.

Dr. Yinggang Li: "E-band Radios for LTE/LTE-Advanced Mobile Backhaul"
ABSTRACT:
The evolution of wireless technology towards 4G and beyond opens tremendous opportunities for new mobile broadband services. These bandwidth-hungry services, however, will pose tough requirements on mobile infrastructures as well. Backhaul transmission is one example where new solutions are required to meet the capacity challenges. This presentation will start from a market projection on LTE and LTE-Advanced and then review the mobile backhaul challenges and the solutions to them. In particular, E-band radios will be discussed in detail as one future-proof solution to meet the capacity challenge. To conclude the presentation, some general requirements of system blocks will be commented briefly from system perspective.
